“Invaluable support”
When things are heading south in your job or you are worried about something, it’s great to know you can get independent advice and support from experts and those who’ve been there before. Avoiding disaster and getting things back on track fast is where it’s at in this business. Knowing the IHL has your back is a great and relaxing place to be.

“There when you need it”
As a GC you have measures and governance in place for every eventuality, except so often yourself! More than ever now with everything we’ve seen play out in the press in corporate scandals and the like, we have to protect our careers as well as our clients. The IHL gives you peace of mind that you are ready for anything that might come.

“Finally representing our interests!”
For a long time no-one has spoken for the in-house legal community as a profession. Now we have the IHL we can advance our interests without it becoming personal to individuals or where to have these conversations would make it look like there was an issue with a particular company. There is a lot of work to do with the business and regulator community in particular to strengthen awareness and address systemic concerns.

“It takes a village”
There is a huge amount of experience and wisdom in the in-house legal community. Being able to draw on that, help each other and build best practice is a great place to be. Where it matters most is on the really difficult things - those that arise with increasing regularity and intensity as the role and responsibilities grow. It really does take a village and we have a great one to come together around the issues that matter to our individual and collective future.

The Institute of In-house Lawyers is a professional body dedicated to supporting and advancing the in-house legal community.
A membership fee is payable on an annual basis to join the IHL and access its benefits. The fee structure is being shaped. Sign up here for updates and early access.
Once you are a member you will be able to access mentoring support on demand, by choosing from a list of our experienced mentors, and be able to book a meeting with one of our mentor experts.
Mentoring support is different to legal advice, which you will also be able to access through your membership insurance.
In the way the profession has evolved, every in-house lawyer needs personal insurance to cover a range of eventualities. Membership of the IHL comes with the cover you need. Insurance is provided as part of the sign up process, once that is live on the site. As part of your membership, you can then access legal and/or representation when you need it. Your insurance will renew as part of your annual membership renewal.
